If you invite someone with a guest, you're leaving the choice of the "guest" up to them. It's perfectly fine to invite just the person, without the guest, or specify exactly who is invited (Her Name and Boyfriend's Name) - but it sounds like this is not what they did. It's rude to retract the invitation.

And guest means you can bring whomever your wish. However, if a specific person has been asked not to attend by either the bride or the groom, that request should be honored.

Your sister ought to be able to bring whomever she wishes. The groom has no right to all of sudden say it imposes on his guest list just because it isn't a "date" guest. Why don't you print out all the responses you've gotten in her favour and show them to him?

Your sister should be able to bring whomever she chooses. Your cousin had the right to just invite your sister without a guest since she doesn't have a significant other, but since she said "and guest", your sister gets to choose. Your cousin will get over it.

Whaaaaa??!!!!The invite says 'and guest'..not 'and guest but only with the approval of the groom 'cause if he doesn't like the guest he wants to invite someone else, thus screwing you outta bringing a guest'.......does it?The groom makes no sense...and he can't take back the 'and guest' either.Your sister doesn't even have to tell him who she is bringing...just respond by saying Miss So & So & guest will attend...period....and tell him he needs to read a book on proper wedding invitation etiquette...

The bride and groom are idiots and are clueless. When you indicate "and guest", you automatically assume that the single person WILL bring a guest. If the idiot couple couldn't afford another meal, they shouldn't have included it in the invitation.
