Seems like celebrities get singled out for this, but even everyday people if they have their wedding band off for a MINUTE are suspected of being up to no good. I wonder why folks are so busy staring at hands unless they think the person is fair game. What do you think?

My husband works around machinery that is bigger than my house. If he wore his ring and got it caught in the machine, not only would he lose a finger, he probably would lose his life and rather gruesomely at that. He knows he's married and I trust him ring or no ring.

Generally speaking, yes, I think they're up to something unless it's someone with grease around their fingers, paint splattered on their pants, etc. I'm sure there are certain circumstances that are not work place related that would cause one to remove ones wedding ring but they're few and far between.

There are SO many reasons why people don't wear their rings and there are WAY too many reasons why people jump to conclusions that are NOT real.Like the first poster mentioned, there are many, many jobs that it's too dangerous to wear a ring because they can lose a finger if they wear a ring, and it IS true. There are many jobs that people work with their hands and it's dangerous for them to wear a ring or NOT sterile, like a surgeon, or even a chef, just think of a chef wearing a ring and a stone falls into the food or the grime that collects into their ring, or like the first poster mentioned, the dangers of a machinist or coal miner wearing a ring and they could lose that finger or their life if that ring gets caught. Then there are the simple reasons, that ring could be at the jewelers getting an update, that ring could be broke like the previous poster mentioned and the people are chosing to eat and have a roof over their head then to fix the ring. Really, these days with prices the way they are, choosing to eat and have a home are more important than fixing a stone in a broken ring. I'm SURE those people would LOVE to have their rings fixed, but it's hard times and there are priorities and NO ONE needs to be judged wrongly. There are SO many reasons out there why someone may not be wearing their ring and it's NOT up to us to make that decision, that's between the husband and the wife. It kills me when people automatically make those rash judgements and we all know what happens when we ASSume!I think we should all be there for each other to help each other more instead of focusing on each other to gossip and come up with more stories. As more things are happening to the earth and the fires and floods, we need to be there for each other!

I don't wear one because it hurts my hand. Married and totally faithful for a LONG time.

I know guys that are mechanics, electricians, and people who work with machinery that do not regularly wear wedding rings. For them, it is a matter of safety. Strange as it may seem the use of a wedding ring by men was not common until recently. Whereas women have worn wedding rings for eons, men have not. The use of rings as a symbol of everlasting love enshrined in marriage can be traced back thousands of years. But not so much for men. It was, in fact, during the second world war that the use of wedding rings by men became more common. It became the custom for US soldiers going to war to publicise their marital status by the wearing of a man's wedding ring. They were happy to make public their commitment to their wife by the wearing of a public symbol that declared that commitment to all. Given that this habit of wearing men's wedding bands was reasonably new it was all the more creditable that these men were willing to forego the marital obscurity available to them from not wearing a ring and actively chose to make a public statement about their choice. Men's wedding rings have become increasingly more common since that time. Today it is probably as common for a newly married man to wear a ring as not. This may be due to several factors. The modern man may consider it his duty to choose to make the same public marital statement as his wife will. And his wife may well consider it a condition of the marriage that he do so.

No, I know a lot of people who don't wear wedding rings anymore. The nature of their job, the fit of the ring, damaged rings. Lots of reasons. Now if they are hitting on someone without their ring on, different story.

Not all the time I suspect this. You're right. It does happen though. For example, my wife and I cannot wear rings in our jobs or any jewelry for that matter because gold and silver is a great conductor for electricity. And unless we want to burn our fingers off like I have seen it done you should leave it in your pocket.I am aware that people leave them off for ulterior motives and that is a crock. Some people actually do it for safety reasons.

IT depends.I have never seen my mom's wedding ring. I know she has it but its too small and the family is pentecostal, which basically shun's jewelry and the women usually dont wear their wedding rings ( not even the pastor or his wife). So no, It not suspicious to me, it all depends on who you talk to.

I'm sure there are a lot of valid reasons for not wearing your wedding ring, BUT....Yes, I would instantly suspect something.

I take my wedding set off when I do dishes, clean with harsh products, and sometimes when I take a shower. I am constantly forgetting to put it back on, and often wonder if people think me and my husband are having problems because I show up with no ring. I honestly just forget to put it back on. So for me, no I wouldn't think it's a big deal.
