I just got engaged but hate planning weddings and cannot imagine spending upwards of thousands of dollars on one day. I just want to get married in the catholic church and have a simple reception. Suggestions on the simplest way to do this? We want to get married on a Friday evening. Does anyone know if the Catholic church performs wedding in the evening on Fridays? Also any suggestions on places to have receptions that don't cost an arm and a leg? It is after all not a good idea to start the marriage off in debt!

Edwards Mansion (off the 10 near Pharaoh's Lost Kingdom) is an all inclusive wedding resort with an on site chapel. Very beautiful and historic and completely affordable.

You are so smart not to go into debt for your wedding. It is not necessary, you can have a lovely wedding without spending a lot. Congratulations for thinking responsibly.

Catholic churches will perform a wedding on a Friday. You have to go through marriage counseling with the priest you want to marry you for like 9 months before you get married!Your future spouse has to be Catholic too. Also, it has to be the first marriage for both of you -- if not you have to apply for an annulment which could take over a year! You definitely need to consult with a preist before you begin your planning process.

I'm Catholic. Weddings can take place pretty much any time except Lent (the couple months before Easter). However, at least one of the two people getting married MUST be Catholic. You will have to go through a marriage preparation course. Where I live, the course is 5 months long. If you are just looking for a pretty church, try Anglican, Lutheran, Episcopalian and even Methodist churches, who are more lenient on who they will marry in their churches. You can ask if you can have the reception at the church too, such as in a cafeteria or gymnasium or something, if the church has it, or on the grounds outdoors. If you are Catholic, get in touch with your priest or the priest at that parish and speak to him about your plans. Good luck! God bless!

Good luck finding a church that will marry you on a Friday evening. First of you should research with the Archdiocese to find out which is your parish. Because most churches will not marry you if you are out of bounds. Then you have to call the church at least six months in advance so you can secure a date and start the proceedings. It's also a good idea to become a parish member otherwise they charge you more. Usually the weddings are held on Saturday before confession. As for venue research for your reception check out http://herecomestheguide.com they have all sorts of listings and info.
