My Husband & I will be going on our Honeymoon from Sept 29 -Oct 9 in Florida . My cousin (just send her invitation 3 weeks ago) is having her wedding in Vegas on Oct 11. My parents are telling me I should go to this wedding even though its costing me $600 for 1 day b/c I cant get off of work that Fri. I told them Scott & I since my cousin live in Florida and will be there when we go, Scott & I will take them out to a nice dinner and Scott will take her fiance out for golf. its not just b/c of the money its also b/c out the downtime I will need from disney for 11 days. My cousin was in my wedding and I realsie she problem did spend a good amount of $, but I really feel that its a little unreasonable of my parents to expect my to fly from fl to my home (Chicago) and then to Vegas for 1 day (plus I would have mega jet lag and no time for rest b4 work on Monday). Please let me know what you all think and if you need more explanation.

I think you should go. Family is family. I would definitely sacrifice sleep and some money if it's for something like a wedding.

I think you should go. She's sacrificing and spending to be in your wedding, it would be pretty rude not to return the favor.

Amy....you are an adult that can make her own decisions. I know it is sometimes hard to stand up to your parents (I still have trouble at 52 years old), but you need to be firm.Tell your parents exactly what you have said here. That, when you are in Florida, you will be spending time with your cousin to wish her well.I would NOT come back from a honeymoon trip and then fly off to Vegas the next day. Really, you must be firm with your parents. If they are mad.....oh well. They will get over it.

Your cousin should understand that having a destination wedding, not everyone can come. I was married in Vegas and no-one from my family was even there. Enjoy your honeymoon.

I know exactly how you feel. A few years back my very best friend got married in AZ and I live in NY. At the time I was taking grad classes, working two jobs and scared to fly alone. I didn't end up going and I've regretted it ever since. I wish that I would have put my needs aside for the weekend, but I didn't and now I have to live with it. Just make sure that you make a decision that you can live with. Best wishes and have fun at Disney!

Instead of spending $600 just to go for one day, spend at least $300 on a really nice gift and send it(PRIOR to the wedding, as per etiquette rules) with your regrets that you cannot attend. I'm sure that your cousin will understand, and that's more important than your parents' understanding. It's not their wedding!

I think you should go. I know it's really inconvient, but if they are a close family member you should be there for them. My fiance and I are flying in for one day to his cousin's wedding and flying out right after the wedding (they are having a Sunday wedding) to get back home ni time to be at School & Work. I know it isn't always the most convienet thing, but if it is even feasible for you, I think you should try and be there for them. Otherwise I would talk to your cousin and see if it is a big deal if you are there. I am assuming since it is a Vegas wedding the guest list is small and they are only having close members, so therefore you not showing would pry make her a little disappointed. If it was a large wedding and you wouldn't get much face time with the bride and groom or what not then you would probably be okay to stay home. Good luck!

maybe you can reroute your tickets and spend two days there, that way, no jet lag.

Gee, you're an adult. Make a decision which doesn't involve your parents.I sure would attend this wedding if she were an attendant of mine!
