I've done some map research on the National Hurricane Center's website and it looks like historically hurricanes don't hit Montego Bay in September. Is this accurate, or am I reading the map wrong? I'll be arriving there for my honeymoon in exactly 3 weeks and I'm trying to get some peace of mind  I've looked on lots of websites but it's pretty confusing to find the forecast section for hurricanes so detailed instructions would be nice!Also, is it dangerous to be there during a hurricane? |

| You're not reading it incorrectly. It all depends on where the hurricaine strikes. However, Jamaica is an island so I don't think that gives anyone much solace. There is no way to get any piece of mind because you'll be there during hurricaine season. Tropical depressions can form at a moments notice which can turn into a tropical storms and then to hurricaine. You can't worry about it too much because then you'll drive yourself crazy. Just plan to go and plan to enjoy yourself. My mom went to the Dominican Republic and on the tail end of her trip, Tropical Storm Fey (the one that flooded florida) came to say hello. She said there were high winds and waves and the power went out. Everyone was told to stay inside the hotel and all flights were cancelled. She wasn't afraid at all and said it was kind of cool to see the storm coming in the distance. When she got to the airport they bumped her to first class. I would say just plan to go and monitor the weather as time gets closer. If you're 3 weeks out, it's going to be difficult trying to predict the weather. Good luck, and congrats on your marriage! |

| It is not dangerous to be at a hotel in Jamaica during a hurricane ONCE you are staying at a decent hotel. They make adequate arrangments for everyones safety. If there is a hurricane, you may not have the type of vacation that you originally planned, but you will still be fine. |

| If a hurricane that is worth worrying about hits Jamaica, it will hit the WHOLE island...Jamaica is NOT a large island and there's no such thing as a real hurricane hitting only part of the island. Here's your piece of mind...the most you may see is a tropical storm as hurricanes really aren't THAT common. The weather may be miserable but it's tropical and the rain isn't so bad...just usually rains hard and fast for a short time then clears up.You'll more than likely be more concerned about the heat while you're down there...thank god for A/C! |
