We are getting married by ourselves in St. Thomas and then coming back to have a reception with all of our friends and family. How should we word these invites? Also, we are having a small family only ceremony before the wedding, how should I tell my family about this? Should I put a small card in the family ones only? Please help! Thanks!!

What I would do is something like this:Please join us for a wedding receptioncelebrating the marriage ofbrideand groomdateplacetimeetc.then at the bottom, maybe in smaller print, put"Marriage will be solemnized in St. Thomas, USVIon date"Then, print a separate card for the family invite with the info on that. I don't know what you're calling that ceremony, but whatever you're calling it have the invite read something like this:Please join us for a _______(whatever you're calling the ceremony)celebrating the marriage ofbride and groomdatetimeplaceetc. Hope this gives you a good start!

I went to a invitation website and looked at their wordings they provided. They offered lots of different options, so just play around online. I just found this website and I hope it helps with some of your questions.http://www.brides.com/weddingstyle/invitations/qa/Congrats!

I'm having the same problem. My fiance and I are having a small immediate family only ceremony followed by a big reception. We're wording ours like this:Bridey Bridebrideand Groomy Groomgroomalong with their parents, request the pleasure of your companyat the reception celebrating their weddingon Saturday, the twenty-eighth of February, two thousand and nineThe reception will take place atReception Hall,123 Fake Street,Town, IndianaCocktails and hors d'oeuvres will be servedat five o'clock, followed by dinner at half past six. We're including small cards in the ones for people who are invited to the ceremony too. The biggest thing to remember is to make it VERY clear that they aren't coming to the ceremony, just the reception. Otherwise, they'll show up confused and disappointed. If i were you, i'd have a friend mail out wedding announcements on the actual day of your wedding, so the people you invite to the reception will know beforehand that you already got married.

You'll want to do two separate cards. For the family members invited to both the ceremony and reception, include both. For those just invited to the reception, say the following:"Susan Smith and Peter Jones were married on August 14, 2008, in a private ceremony on St. Thomas island. The couple, along with their parents, invite you to celebrate this joyous occasion at a reception..." and then give details of the date, time, and location. For those invited to the small ceremony, add a small card to their invitations that says something like:"Susan Smith and Peter Jones were married in a private ceremony on August 14. Please join us as they renew their vows before God and family on..." and give the details of date, time, and location.OR, if you are only inviting about ten people to the ceremony, you could probably just call and let them know the situation. Any more than that, though, and I would send a paper invite.
