This is something that I found really hard at my wedding. As much as me and my wife wanted to have an upbeat reception with alot of dancing and good times encouraged, it occurred to us that many of our elderly relatives would not find this enviroment very welcoming. I would have liked to have some modern dance tracks as well as some hip hop but we decided to go with mainly older rock songs and the such...How would you suggest solving this dilemma if we were to do it again?

I was thinking maybe starting a more upbeat and youth oriented reception later in the night....

I think most churches can provide music.

I like your idea of switching the music focus halfway through the night....It sounds like a good way to cater to all audiences....It is essential tho that you play some classic wedding songs!!

One way to make sure that people don't complain is to have the DJ play songs by request. I know it makes things easier for me when I do music for my friend's parties. Just make sure that the DJ knows if you want a certain song played at a certain time.
