I'm not going to be providing alcohol at my wedding. There will be a bar, where guests can purchase their own alcoholic beverages if they choose to do so. There will also be a meal, and drinks (punch, coffee, etc) available for the guests. Me and my fiance don't drink, so we were going to get sparkling cider. We went to get it tonight, and my fiance started to get like a whole case and I was like "what are you doing?". (Let me add that this isn't an extravagent wedding and comprised of low to middle class family members.) I just thought we were going to buy for the head table (me and the groom, and attendants) but he wanted to get a bottle for each table. I know it's not very expensive, but with the holidays coming up, it just wasn't in the budget. We're behind as it is. I thought he understood this, but I guess not. I was just thinking the rest of the guests would toast with whatever they were drinking. How bad will it be to just have something at the head table? What do you suggest?

You can't just have the cider toast at the main table, it's really tacky. You have to have a bottle at every table, or none at all.

You are arguing over something so stupid? You admitted yourself that cider is cheap. I think it would be nice to have a bottle for every table for the toast. If you are so strapped for money, maybe you should have reconsidered a few things for your wedding.

I volunteered for years with a community hall that did catering. Lots and lots of people used fruit punch for the toast. It looks pretty in a glass and everyone can drink it, even those who choose to avoid alcohol and children. Nobody will have to guess if it contains alcohol like they might if you used sparkling cider. Plus, it's probably less costly than many other options.Another nice choice would be a mixture of cranberry juice (or any cran-blend) with club soda or Sprite/7-Up. It's pretty and light and also relatively inexpensive. The only downside is it would be a bit of fiddling around to mix it up and it would go flat if it sat on the table for very long.

I know this is not what you want to hear but it is traditional for everybody to have some champaigne to toast - generally just before speeches the reception venues staff would go around a pour everybody a glass, although you are not supplying any alcohol it would be inconsiderate for you not to supply people with champaigne, sparkling white, or some sort of cidar. What if your guests dont have a drink at the time? You cant expect them to simply watch while everybody else toasts. Buy a few bottles of Miason cidar - its cheap and really nice (comes in both white and red version.) Get the staff to put a bottle and champaigne flutes on each table just before toasts. I would be slightly offended if i was a guest and not able to do a real toast. If your worried about the budget, you could always do speeches like normal but not do the traditional toast. Just end it with applause instead of somebody saying 'to the bride and groom'Good luck and congrats

I am also not having alcohol at my wedding so I know where you are coming from. I disagree with Katie on her statement that having champagne for the toast is traditional. That is not the case. I know quite a few brides who are either doing toasts with cider or punch. But I do think it would be strange for just the head table to have the cider and nobody else. I think you should go ahead and purchase a bottle for each table - it's not expensive and you will avoid offending anyone.

You don't need a bottle per table it ends up getting wasted a 1/2 glass per person that desires it is plenty. That is 10 servings per bottle. At $2.00 or so even less in this area around the holiday(stock up) You'd serve 100 guests for $20.00 .

Serve everyone or forget it. Very rude not to serve everyone; and one glass is very tacky and cheap

You can't really toast without something sparkling. I would suggest that you buy at least one bottle for each table.

I am sorry but you cannot provide drinks for just you and not your guests, either provide for everyone or don't provide anything at all, I am not a snob or one for following strict traditions but that is like going for dinner at a friends house and they sit drinking wine while they give you just water. One bottle per table is not going to break the bank, these people are your friends, they have made the effort to come to your wedding, and have probably bought you a gift, maybe incurred travelling costs, the least you can do is provide 1 drink for the toast.

I will be having a nonalcholic wedding as well. I will be using sparkling apple cider and, to be honest, it would be best to include everyone in this one drink for the toast. The drink is real cheap and one bottle can serve like 5 people.
