I don't plan on having one because I am trying to do it on $4000.00 bucks (not including photography), and they seem to cost $1000.00 up here for just the day of planning.Anyways what are your reasons for having one/not having one? Are you worried if you don't have one it won't run smoothly? Do you have a friend/family member acting as a wedding planner?

I am not going to have one, because I am going to have my bridesmaid/maid of honor/mom help me. It's A LOT easier once you register at theknot.com. It lists a checklist to have certain things done by, so you don't really need someone to plan it out. They mainly tell you your deadlines (like theknot) and make appointments for you, but since I know how to use a phone, a wedding planner is not worth the money. Unless if you have the extra cash lying around, which I know I don't! Congrats on your engagement!

It's not such a big thing in the UK, they usually have events planners at the reception venue that handle the booking anyway. The cost was too much, I would not pay someone to to do something I could do myself. My husband and I loved the planning, we enjoyed doing the research and finding things for ourselves, we also managed to negotiate good prices for everything so that made us happy!Planning our wedding was one of the most enjoyable parts of the whole thing, I think if you have the money and no time to plan then a planner is fine, but I would not have missed that part for the world.

I do not have one, but if I could afford it I would. Planners can sometimes get you enough discount on services that it counters their fee. However, if your total budget is $4K this would probably not be the case. As long as you are organized and have friends/family to help you then you should be fine.

My sister WANTED to hire one, but she is on a tight budget, so now, I'M her wedding planner! I think as long as you have people helping you plan along the way, you'll be fine. I think it's more fun and meaningful to have the support of friends and family, rather than some stranger that you are paying. We ARE designating one of my friends (someone my sister is friendly with but not close enough to invite) to be the "go-to" person on the actual wedding day. She will be the one to go to the reception site in the morning to make sure everything is set up accordingly, and kind of guide us as we go down the aisle at the church. I think that will definitly be a big help!

I didn't have a planner either, for a couple of reasons. First because I pretty much knew what I wanted and how I wanted my wedding done. Second my schedule was so busy with work and family I didn't want to deal with having to try to meet with another person. When my wedding day came, it flowed very smoothlly. No problems.

I did and am doing my wedding all by myself with help from my fiancee but as far as a planner, I picked one for that day so I won't stress myself out with worrying about where to make people stand and when the children should go down and why are people standing like this. I just didn't have time to babysit my grown a** friends and family who is apart of the wedding party. All I want to do on my day is me looking good, walking down that aisle and marrying the love of my life.

Not a chance. That ten percent one has to pay a wedding planner was very well used in other costs for the wedding. Between me and my mom, all the planning went really well.

i had a wedding planner she was fantastic but cost too much. at our initial consultation I found out how much she charged for the full wedding package and i opted for the hourly rate. I only used her when i needed her. and the day of the wedding. in the end by doing most of it myself i saved a lot of money. shop around and see if you can find a planner that does hourly work. then you use her for the initial itinerary and to help with those little things we don't think about. Good luck and congrats.

I did not have one because I am very detail oriented. I did however talk to a lot of my friends who were married about questions that I had and services that they used. In my case, a wedding planner was not necessary. I had a lot of time to plan my wedding, so I just did a lot of research. If you have the time, I would say try it on your own. You are going to have to be organized and willing to talk to a lot of service providers to get the best ideas and best prices. I loved planning my wedding, so hopefully you will too. Good luck!

Yes because my upcoming wedding is going to be in Barbados. Since I'm in the US, obviously I can't be there to contact vendors and set things up. My coordinator has been a gem.
