Hey, I have been looking at a bunch a wedding photographer websites in my area, and I find allot of them dont list the prices for there packages or whats included with them. All they say is contact them or email them for more information or a quote. And then a few do post the prices, What do you think is better ? What would you do ? Do you think its better for them to show the prices so its easy to tell right away if they are in your budget or does it seem better to have to contact them first to get the price information...Thanks

I say either way was good for me and my fiancee. We liked looking at the website with the type of work they offer online and in person. As far as price it works good online that way you know what to expect, if it is in your budget or not. Also some post one price but can quote you another and some will be willing to work with you to design your own package for what your budget may fit. So it all depends on the photographer. Hope this helps some.

The thing about contacting them and getting pricing information over the phone or in person is you know it's going to be fairly accurate. If you're looking at a website or literature from a bridal show, there's no telling when the last time it was updated or if it's changed recently and they will probably have a disclaimer that the pricing is subject to change, so they probably wouldn't honor old pricing. Speaking with someone can also help you factor in costs that aren't standard with each package like how long the photographer will be there, travel costs, etc, and if any of those types of costs are applicable. I'm not a photographer but as someone who has worked in customer service and retail for a long time, I can understand their desire to speak with someone about pricing and answer their questions rather than put that information on a web page. They may also have a lot o packages they don't advertise, so speaking to them could allow you to get a customized package. When I was looking for a photographer, I didn't want to have to buy a specific number and sizes of pictures, I wanted to pick and chose and I wanted to keep all the proofs without paying extra. Calling around and asking questions allowed me to find the photographer that was right for me.Good luck.

you are so right i'm planning my wedding now and i'm looking for a photographer and i have the same problem. i'm my case i'm not looking for a package i just want somebody to take pictures for 4-5 hours and give them to me in negatives and cd's. so for me a person working in a hourly wage is perfect for me. so i've look for some people like that.

I personally prefer to have the prices listed, but i understand why they don't. so many of them will customize a package for you r needs to where it is hard for them to say that the price will be one set thing. Giving them a full idea of what you would like would give them a better idea of how to price what you are wanting. You could miss out on certain things or not get enough of something if you just go by what prices they have listed. It kind of protects all parties and allow you to get exactly what you want for your package.

On the whole, a good wedding photographer is going to cost you around $4,000 and up and you usually don't get that many photos out of it. All the couples that I know who had professional wedding photographers were seriously let down by the quality(bad lighting, didn't show up on time, poor quality prints, proof cd's never came, etc.), especially for the price. At my wedding next year we are opting to have my sister take pictures and encouraging other guests to bring their cameras. This way everyone can take part in making memories and its a lot easier on the pocket book. My mother-in-law agreed with our idea since she was also very disappointed with the results that she paid for at her other children's weddings. Either way it is up to you. Good luck with your upcoming wedding!

This is a hotly debated topic among wedding photographers. On the one hand, its nice to give the customers the information for comparison purposes, but at the same time it often hurts the photographer. For instance, I only use the absolute best wedding books available for my album. These albums cost me many times that of what most of the other photographers in town use. However, its difficult in just a few lines on a website, or with a few photos, to convey just how nice these albums are. If you're a comparison shopper, you may just see "oh, he offers an album too" and compare my listed price against that of photographers offering a lower quality book. Many people also don't realize the work and investment that goes into quality wedding photography. I know that when I got married (before I was in the business), I was shocked at the prices quoted to us by the wedding photographer we really liked. But when that photographer educated us on all that went into her work, we learned that she really was offering us a bargain (and I understand even better now, being in the business, what a deal we got!). If she'd listed her prices on her website, she never would have had a chance to explain her pricing, and we probably wouldn't have contacted her.Ultimately, though, for me it comes down to the fact that as an artist, I want someone to fall in love with my photos. Someone who really likes my work will have no hesitation in contacting me... and if my not having a price listed on the site is a huge obstacle, then they probably didn't really like my work that much. I hope this helps explain. Its a touchy issue in the industry right now.

I preferred seeing the prices. I got to a point that if I didn't see prices, I would assume they where out of my budget and not even contact them because of previous experience. And, when I would contact them, all I would get is a price list. Nothing special about them, just what could have been posted online. Waste of time!

They should put a generalized whats included and price on there, I am extremely picky and have trouble taking a photographers site seriously if they arernt willing to tell me what they will give me, and for houw much.
