Do people prefer B&W or Color Wedding Photographs? If B&W, are thy good enough from Digital Photographers?
I am doing some research about Black and White Photography, and thought this is a good place to start. I have been under the impression that today digital wedding photographers really do not pay as much attention to final product, and instead give their customer photographs straight from their camera, and let the customer do with the photographs whatever they choose. Do you other people think the same way? |

If I'm paying for someone to get pictures of my wedding they better finish the job and at least give me printed copies of the pictures.
We shot everything in color and covert it to B&W later. That we we don't even need to think about if something will look better with or without color. |

All of my images are converted to B&W as well. And yes, I Photoshop each and every image. There is no way I would allow any of my images to go out "straight from the camera." In my opinion, even if it only requires a little tweak in exposure or color correction, you need to do that before giving it to the client.
Those who "shoot and burn" a CD for the client and don't do anything else is not doing a proper job for their clients. Even if you don't do anything to the file because it's in perfect condition, it's still important to at least review it to make sure it's perfect.
So, do photographers today pay attention to the final product? If they are a pro, yes, they do. If they are a "wannabe" photographer, no they don't. I don't think any self respecting photographer should do a half-way job. If you are charging for your work, then you owe it to your clients to do it properly. |

I shoot color then go B&W with selected images. I shoot RAW, then output to JPEG and will tweak for exposure and color. But with 1200 images on average per wedding, I don't do many other touch ups on all the images. However, I will select the best and make some more adjustments or enhancements.
If a client just wants the CD of images, then I won't make prints. They pay less, and I work less. But if they want more, they get more -- when they pay more. It's simple capitalism. |

| I hand edit every one of the photographs I am going to present to the client. I would never give anyone anything I wasn't happy with myself after all they are going to shopefully show these to other prospective clients. Generally I include a few montages and B/W shots to give them ideas of how they may want them done in either enlargements or their album. If I do any in B/W I also provide them with the colour version as comparisson |
