I'm interested in buying my own camera, and a friend of a friend recommended the Canon EOS Digital Rebel, so I'd like to know the pros and cons of this camera.I'm just starting out with photography, sort of. I've been taking amateur shots for the past 2 years or so. I don't know much about cameras, seeing as I've been using my brother's old camera, a Fujifilm FinePix S5000, and even with that I don't know everything it does, because my brother can't find the manual. I'm considering taking a few photography courses at my local college, and a friend offered to take me along the next time she does a wedding or some other event. Can anyone recommend a good camera? Also, what are the pros and cons of it?

If you take classes, an entry level digital SLR like the Rebel or the Nikon equivalent would be good choices. Do some research, because once you commit to a camera system, you will begin to accumulate lenses, flashes, and other accessories that will only work on that manufacturer's systems. If you picked up a used film-based camera, in my opinion, there is no better way to learn photography than a 35 mm all-manual camera or a camera like the film-based Rebel, where it can be used in a manual mode and lenses for it are compatible with the digital version.
