Found this on Wikipedia for you: "A groom's cake is a wedding tradition typically associated with the American South. While a wedding cake may often be decorated in white and light in texture and/or color, the groom's cake can take a variety of forms, many incorporating chocolate or fruit. Cheesecake sometimes serves as a groom's cake. The decoration of the cake may reflect the favorite hobby or interest of a groom, or be used for humorous effect, as depicted in the film adaptation of Steel Magnolias, in which a red velvet cake was fashioned in the shape of an armadillo. The groom's cake is often served at a separate table from the wedding cake at a wedding reception, though it may be served as a dessert for a rehearsal dinner.Somewhat mirroring legend associated with wedding cakes, a young lady who sleeps with a slice of groom's cake under her pillow will supposedly dream of the man she will marry."

The Groom's cake can be served at the Rehearsal Dinner or Party . . or at the reception as a SECOND cake or dessert . . OR given to the wedding guests as they leave (wrapped in a bag or box). The Groom's cake has a humorous or personal theme. For example: the Groom's college colors . . . or his favorite sport . . or his profession. I've seen Groom's cakes with a fire engine on it . . a football on it . . a picture of the Groom's fraternity house on it . . and a corvette on it.Groom's cakes are usually a sheet cake or a double layer round cake, not a tiered cake like a wedding cake. The Groom is usually given the opportunity to choose the flavor and/or icing of this cake, and I've also seen cheese cakes used as "Groom's cakes."Answered by: A Certified wedding specialist / A Professional bridal consultant / A Wedding ceremony officiant

A wedding cake is the one you usually see with the different tiers and all the pretty flowers. The one that stands out at the wedding. The grooms cake is usually a sheet cake that is off to the side. It's the "manly" cake. It has a design that fits the groom. Sportscar, fish, golf clubs, team logo, etc.
