| I say you look up this word in the dictionary.There are many well known spots on this earth, where newly married people go, to be alone with each other and by them self.The idea behind it is to go where no one hopefully know you, and get away with awkward moments during this trying, delicate period, of getting to know each other. |

| I think in marriages thier calender means(Bride n Bridegroom) calender is lunar based and in this lunar based calender the married couple goes hunting for the honey,so honeymoon.Honeymoon stands for a begining of a new life. |

| Years ago, before they invented liquor stores, people had to make their own alcohol. There was this one wine drink called mead - made with honey - that was traditionally served at weddings, and the bride and groom also used it to toast each other every day for one full moon after the marriage. So, honey-moon. |

| SmartAlec is right. They say that if you drank honeywine (mead) on a full moon you would be blessed with child 9 months later. Or at least that what my friend who makes his own mead says. Check out the link below for Yahoo!'s answer to your question. |

| The first weddings comprised of a groom taking his bride by capture. He would take her somewhere hidden away so her relatives and villagers couldn't find them. There they stayed for one moon phase and drank mead, a wine make from honey, to make them more amorous. Thus, the word "honeymoon" was born. Today, the honeymoon is the time when the couple can get away for awhile. |
