Hello, our wedding is coming up soon and I am faced with a dilemma: wine. We have about 60 guests at the reception. We don't know how to do the wine serving thing. I realize it's cheaper to buy our own wine and pay the corkage fee, but I don't want to upset the restaurant owner by doing this. But on the other hand, the wine at the restaurant starts at about $30 a bottle. You figure, for 60 guests, that adds up to a lot.Any suggestions? Thanks!

Ask the owner/manager if he would give you a discount since it is your reception and you are dining at his restaurant and there are sooo many people. He may accommodate you!

Just keep in mind that its your day and your money that you are spending. If you can't afford the wine in the resturant and they allow you to, by all means buy the wine and pay the corkage fee. Just a warning though, I don't know a thing about wine, but i do know that a decent bottle is prob gonna cost 15-20dollars...plus a corkage fee of about $10...you could very well be actually paying more by bringing the wine rather than getting it at the resturant. Also, letting the caterer handle the alcohol, you don't have to worry about paying for a lot of bottles and then having lots of opened half drank wine bottles to take home and drink yourself. And if you aren't a wine person then you just ate the cost of the entire wine bill.

supplying your own wine is FINE.do not allow guilt to entire your mind.you are paying for the resturant, that is enough.to serve the wine, i'd say having a bottle of red, white and sparkling sitting on each table will be perfect.

We had the same problem, wine for 100 guests. Ended up buying our own wine (3 great inexpensive Chilean varieties) and paying the corkage fee. I don't think upsetting the restaurant owner is an issue here - it's business after all and they are prepared for it. Maybe it'll give them an impulse to include cheaper wines in their menus in the future. As to serving, the restaurant staff took care of that as usual (that is what your corkage goes towards too). We had a buffet-style meal, and the wine was served only at the buffet, not at the tables. That also helped to keep the number of open bottles down, reducing corkage and minimizing leftovers.
