I've dreamt for quite some time now about showing my photography at a gallery. My school has a 'night with the arts' and a lot of my work was displayed. It was great, but I'm moving on to bigger game, haha. I was wondering how other people got their art displayed; whether it be at a museum or coffee shop. Any help is appreciated! The art is generally not for sale. Perhaps I could take photos of local business (patrons and such) and have them display the photos. Any advice? Smile

If you have a restaurant or coffee shop in mind, ask to speak with the owner or manager. Often, they are happy to be able to change their wall decorations without cost. Talk to local groups and coalitions in your town....they may have exhibitions planned. Approach your local government about having your work in City Hall, or possibly the local hospital, for waiting rooms and common areas. Ask local gallery owners about putting on a show, or, if your art has a central theme, like animals, talk to the local Humane Society. Find out if there are any special events planned in your community that you can get in on. In my town, we have the Friday Art Walk downtown on the first Friday of the month, sponsored by the Artist Coalition and the Chamber of Commerce.Make sure you prepare and display your art in a professional and businesslike way.....crappy displays can take years to overcome. Photos need to be at least matted, if not framed, and keep the framing simple. If you can't afford to have them professionally matted, go to Michaels and buy a Logan mat cutter, and learn to cut beveled mats yourself.....mats cut by hand with an X-acto knife are tacky.Hope this helps.
