| I agree with asking for referals. I'm helping my brother and his fiancee plan their wedding and we're doing a lot of asking about good photographers, videographers, caterers etc. |

| Do work for people for free, or at least relatively free. That way you can get yourself established, and they have money to spend on someone else in case your work ends up not coming out as well. |

Be careful about photographing a wedding if you are not the paid professional at that wedding. Often, pros have exclusivity agreements with their clients and if you go in and start taking photos at a wedding, you could be putting the bride and groom in jeopardy of a contract violation.
If you plan to take photos at a wedding where a professional has been hired, be sure it's ok with both the bride and groom and also with the paid professional. Often they will be ok with you taking casual shots (everyone does it at weddings) but don't try infringing on the formal shots. The pro will most likely get upset if you do that. Don't get in his/her way during that time. |

| I meant with permission of course. I can't imagine someone not allowing a wedding guest to not take pictures while they're at the wedding. |

i would say that 'word of mouth' is still the best form of advertising.
i did my first wedding last month, and guess what, I got another 2 coming up! i didnt even have a business card and didnt talk to anyone about photography during the wedding! i guess the clients are happy and they happily recommended my services to their friends! |

| How useful is it to make yourselves known to local event organisers and wedding planners? Do they tend to try and find work for a lot of professionals or stick with two or three that they're used to? |

| indeed. referals from clients it's definetely a good choice. but that will come naturally if you do a great job. if you want to do some advertising you could make small publicity in local newspapers and in some entertainment magazines. |
