| I want to buy myself a nice camera so I can stop stealing everyone Else's, and also want to get more serious about photography.I'd describe myself as a casual point and shooter who wants to get more serious, but I also like to try to take photos for the photography of it.my current budget is 200 - 400 dollars, at a stretch. Is it worth is to save up more for a better camera?I would like a camera with 7+ mega-pixel, around 10x optical zoom, though I could live with a little less, and a digital viewfinder. I tend to take pictures of everything, from parties to animals to outdoor nature scenes, so I would like something readily adaptableI'm also not very camera savvy, but, I want to learn, so something intermediate? what are some recommendations?thanksPlus, I'm sixteen, so of course I want something pretty. Pretty to me isn't necessarily those super-thin bright colored ones though. Just something semi-compact that isn't horrendous |

| With your budget, you can get something quite good with all the requirements you need. Obviously, canon, nikon, sony and panasonic, who are leaders in the industry are the obvious choices to go with. Many in the 400 dollar range come with 10x optical, around 6 to 8 megapixel and a fairly large lcd screen.The model you choose is really up to you, since they all perfrom pretty much the same, and all photos can be edited on your computer afterwards anyway. Each brand has their own little marketing gimmick inteded to attract buyers. Some will have an image stabilizer, or the ability to print pics via bluetooth, or some other thing like that. It's really up to you which one you suites you the best.Another thing, i tought should be worth mentioning is that, megapixel size only relates to how large you can magnify the image, it has no direct bearing on the quality of the pic. I have a 4megapixel camera which takes better quality images than many of todays 6 megapixel cams. Just something to keep in mind when you are choosing. |

| I've been taking photos for 25 yrs now.Some economical, powerful & impressive point & shoots are $299 & up.I personally would go for the CN powershot S5 or one of the larger Fuji S series cameras.Save up while comparing models & look in the camera magazine ads then go to their website & check the current price.Give the camera dealers a phone call before you order, if theyre rude over the phone dont do business with them.With super dooper new models coming out last yrs models will really drop in price between Nov & Feb 2008 |
