We're having a casual reception next saturday, we've sent out about 75-90 invitations. Which means people will be bringing their spouses and other guests as well as their children. This is up to 200 guests. Our invitations announce a "light buffet" provided. Anyone have cheap and easy ideas and/or recipes? There will be a lot of alcohol consumption so I'd like one or two bread-y (is that a word?) items for absorption and sustance. We've already decided on swedish meatballs little smokeys boneless buffalo wings and sandwiches, we need some other easy and cheap ideas please! we are having the typical wedding cake and looking for stuff that either requires little to no warming/cooking on site or stuff that IS crock pot capableAnd I have already had my wedding so I'm not going to be overwhelmed or stressed...

If you have Sam's Club or Costco near you, they sell tons of big appetizer packages, meat trays, cheese trays. There are frozen and fresh items there.I have a recipe for Texas Caviar, that's really good and it makes a ton of it. One red onion, dicedOne bunch green onions, choppedOne each red, green, yellow pepper, dicedOne can each shoe peg corn, black beans, black eyed peasOne bottle Kraft Zesty Italian salad dressing.Drain all the canned stuff, and rinse the black beans. Too salty otherwise. Dump it all in a bowl and dress to taste. You could add other things if you like, maybe celery or black olives.Serve with tortilla chips or scoops.Best Wishes...Hope you have a long an happy marriage.

Dinner rolls (they don't really need to be heated or you could precook them.) Corn bread, mexican corn bread, muffins (hey I'd eat them) Some people even just like to eat regular slices of bread with their dinner. Maybe hot dogs, chicken nuggets, french fries for the kids? You can buy tubs of mashed potatoes, macaroni salad, german potatoe salad, cole slaw, baked beans etc at stores. You may even be able to find some bbq pork or something to make sandwhichesMaybe some bags of salads? Get a few cheap salad dressing choices. Chips and dip, relish trays with pickles, olives, peppers. Stuffed celery we usually stuff it with cream cheese or peanut butter. Chex mix and other snacks? Mozzeralla sticks, stuffed mushrooms, tater tots...look for some appetizer things in the frozen foods sections. Maybe you could make some chili or beef stew in the crock pots? I also have a recipe for lasagna that you make in them, if interested. You could also cook raviloli and other stuff like that in them. You could also maybe order a few pizzas? Or cook some frozen ones the night before and put them in the fridge...there's nothing wrong with cold pizza!

my daughter bought a lot of frozen pizzas, cooked them and cut them in little square shapes the best one to me is the connie's pizza. or you could make grilled cheese sandwiches and use cooky cutters to make different shapes or macaroni or tuna salads. or frozen pizza rolls, they're shapped like tiny pillows they're good.or just add some dinner rolls, hard or baked whatever floats your boat. and i don't think bready is a word, in fact i'm gonna look it up right now. congratulations

PASTA SALAD! You know the kind you can buy in the deli? You can get McCormick Salad Supreme (by all the spices) at the grocery store and mix it with rotini noodles and italian dressing. Super cheap, served cold, VERY FILLING and everyone loves it. You can add in veggies and cheese chucks for extra flavor!

You could hire a spit roast and have a lamb on a spit. It's very easy and then people can make their own Turkish-style kebabs/Greek style souvlakis: Just put platters of lettuce, tomato, Greek yogurt, flat bread, etc. on the table for people to assemble them.Things like green salads, pasta salads, and potato salad are also good because it fills people up and you can make it the day before.Satay chicken skewers? You could put a few baskets of all different types of breads- bagels, cibattas, bread rolls, etc.Platters of fruit, vegetables, cheeses, antipasto, cold meats (ham, smoked salmon, etc.) are also easy to assemble and don't require cooking.

Hi!I am doing the same thing with self-catering for about 150.This is what we're doing:Get some good chaffing dishes/roasters to keep things warm.-I am doing the same with little smokeys and meatballs.-We are going to do a meat and cheese tray, a veggie tray, a fruit tray.-We are also going to roast a turkey the night before & heat it up that day (use a crock pot for that) and provide buns and crackers for the turkey and meat tray.-We are also going to do chips and salsa.-Also, you can have a nacho bar! Have tortilla chips, salsa, ground beef, nacho cheese, and you could have various things like peppers, tomatos etc. Those things aren't all that expensive.-Also, you could do a chocolate fountain. The chocolate isn't expensive and many times the fountains are on clearance on places like Wal-Mart. Then you just have to get things like pretzals, marshmellows, rice krispies etc.-candy buffets are also fun. You can get different types of candy (especially after holidays..very cheap! Chocolate keeps for a while as long as you keep it in a cool dark place) Hope that Helps!

How about a warm potato salad in the crock pot, rolls, coleslaw, salads, veggie trays, fruit trays, rye bread bowls with dip inside and the bread torn up for people to dip into the bread bowls, olive trays, cooked shrimp, ribs can be done in the crock pot. They have crock pot recipe books that you can get. You can cook pretty much anything in a crockpot.
