For the wedding reception should i make a seating chart? I think allowing the guest to sit where ever they want would be a good choice, but im not sure if it would be a lot better to create a seating chart.im having about 80 guest

For 80 guests? No, l wouldn't suggest a seating chart. Weddings are so much more fun when you can move around and mingle!

It depends on the formality of the wedding and whether or not you are having a meal.A formal reception with a meal requires a seating chart. A casual buffet or a cocktail reception does not require one.People like to know where to sit when a meal is involved.

I think if you let them sit where they want it will make it a little bit confusing, not only while they are taking there seats but also for those that have special dietary requirements getting the correct food.

You could just set family place card, just to get settled at first and everyone can mingle later.

I am having about the same number of people at my wedding, and my wedding planner said that it's really not the numbers of guests but the type of dinner you are having that determines whether or not to have assigned seating. She said that if you are having a sit down, plated dinner that you should have it, but if you are having buffet style that you should not have it. Hope this helps.

I recommend talking to your caterer. We are having about 90 guests and have a sit down meal planned. Without a seating chart, our caterers would not know where to bring the meals. If you do decide to do a seating chart, try this program http://www.perfecttableplan.com/ It's been very helpful for me.

We had about the same number of guests as you and assigned them to tables (though not to specific seats at the table). It was much more orderly and prevented the saving of seats at preffered tables and of having later-arriving guests having to sit at a table with people they didn't know. After dinner, people did move around to visit with people who were seated at a different table, so our guests were able to socialize freely during the party portion.

Have open seating, with tables reserved for family. Much better for you, way better for guests.
