I really need some wedding planning tips and advice for a small budget of $1300.My mom is buying my dress and his mom is making our cake. We thought of getting food at walmart/sams club for the reception. Do you have any other ideas that can help us have our wedding on a small budget?

I've heard some folks do a pot luck. If you're having it at a hall, Sat will always be most expensive. Ipod or mp3 player vs. DJ. This site has lots of ideas.http://kvetch.indiebride.com/index.php?t=thread&frm_id=30&rid=0&S=7982d9f2bbf82f2a74b4403dec25ae7fThis is a Martha Stuart page that has great make your own decoration ideas.http://www.marthastewart.com/article/pom-poms-and-luminariasGood Luck!

Loads of ideas!Need a few details first though.... what are you including in that budget? Obviously not the dress or cake...Do you have venues already arranged or will that be included in your budget? How formal are you wanting to be? Email me for some free help, I have done many weddings with small budgets.

The easiest thing to do to help control the budget is to keep the guest list as small as possible. Maybe do appetizers and finger foods instead of a full meal?Program an Ipod with the playlist you want and don't get a DJ. Limit the alcohol. That can save you tons of $$!Take the wedding planner up on her offer! I'm sure input will be invaluable!

We mexicans have a potluck sort of thing (most of the time). Ask friends and relatives to help out with a certain dish; instead of them bringing a gift. Be sure to ask plenty of them so you'll have enough food on hand. Have your reception in a big, nice backyard of a friend or relative. Forgo the fancy china and linens [easier cleanup!! =) ] Shop the bridal sales @ craft stores - Hobby lobby has the bridal stuff half off every so often. Make some inexpensive favors, like some laminated bookmarks with a photo of you two on it. Make some small centerpieces, Like a little pail filled with flowers (they can be artificial). No DJ, ask a friend to man the Ipod. Don't spend money on alcohol, it's just a waste of money!! don't overwhelm yourself with too many details, no matter how simple the wedding is, you will be happy because you are going to marry the one you love. Those attending will not care for the details, since they are there for you and with you to celebrate your love. Congratulations and Best wishes!! =)

Aside from what you and your friends can do for your wedding, you will probably need some local professionals to help you with some aspect of your wedding. I would suggest visiting http://www.bestweddingpros.com since they have listings from bridal vendors from all over the country, and they compete to give you their services are really great prices. There are lots of offers and coupons to check out. Find what you need at a lower price.

That man is right. Go to a Justice of the Peace, have a civil ceremony, and use your budget to go to your favorite restaurant and everyone eat until the cook cries uncle! That way you don't have to clean up afterwards.

Why not have a reception with cake, punch and coffee only. Food really isn't expected or necessary if you have mid day or early evening. wedding . I helped cater weddings and some beautiful ones only offered the above. You could add pre made fancy sandwiches and appitezers.

Have the reception at someone's house (maybe yours?) make a CD of music you'd like to have at the reception, burned from your collection and maybe a few CD's you borrowed from friends, have a potluck dinner for the reception and ask a friend to organize who will be bringing the salads, main courses, sides, deserts, etc. Don't be shy about asking friends to help. Chances are they'll be really excited to be included in your plans. Congratulations!

Look to see if there is a community center nearby. Sometimes they have really great rooms to rent that are soooooo affordable! Often if you are a resident of that city (or a family member is) you get a discount on the rental rate. Usually they will already have tables and chairs, and a kitchen there for you to use. Sometimes they will even set up the tables and chairs to your floor plan. They often have hardwood floors (great for a dance floor) and a stage (for the band or dj). Typically you only do light cleaning, and they take care of the rest. It can mean saving thousands if this is an option you can be comfortable with. It only takes a little creativity to really pull things together. I swear by ebay and craigslist! I have found so many brand new items for a fraction of the cost on both sites. Check out dollar and 99 cent only stores. Shop Ikea. Pop in to the thrift stores and see what you find; you might just be surprised! Use silver serving trays for cookies, bread, rolls, muffins, etc. A simple and pretty table idea is a mirror in the center of the table with a vase of flowers on top, surrounded by votive candles. It looks so beautiful and at the end, guests can take the vases home. Look at the dollar or 99 cent stores for vases. See if you can get flowers wholesale to the public. Ikea has great votives in various colors for cheap too.Or try lots votives grouped together in the center of the table (try various shapes and sizes), wind ribbon (or pearl strands) around and in between the votives, and sprinkle tiny mosaic mirrors around the votives (check ebay). Faux flower garlands (try Michael’s) can really dress up a buffet table.Check out Michael’s in the next few weeks as, they will be changing their stock of wedding and bridal items to make room for the new stuff. You’ll be able to find some great stuff on clearance. Check out local rental companies. Often it is cheaper to rent than buy. And they deliver, and pick up.Good luck! And best wishes in your future life together!!

I had a real great wedding - it costed 5000 total. think local! we used everything from the small town. and We made sure that it was a "down home family wedding" we got the whole family to help. So this saved on having a decorator, hair stylist, nails and makeup which can cost major bucks! the food and the photography was the most expensive thing...

I had $1,000 to spend on my wedding. Well since your mom is buying your dress and making your cake you don't have to worry about purchasing these items.I bought a dress (jacket and skirt) off of the rack at J.C. Penney for $40.00.. and had it altered for $25.00. New shoes at payless ($10.00). We bought him a new collar less shirt, pants, belt, socks for less then $75.00. ($150.00)Make your own invitations: I did mine for $10.00 by finding what I liked on the computer, plagarizing alot, and printing them up on my computer with some really nice paper and envelopes on the computer. I put the RSVP on the invitation. ($10.00)Have a bbq, instead of a buffet dinner or a sit down dinner. We had a BBQ in the backyard of the house where I rented a room. We spent about $185.00 on food, cuttlery, cups, napkins. We served generic soda, bottled water, salad, rolls, home made baked beans (which I made), chicken, steaks (which I found on sale), cole slaw (which I made), fruit salad (which I made), sparkling apple juice (Martinellis for a toast) and a sheet cake. My obnoxious room mates (not the lady who owned the house), brought alcohol and got drunk in front of our families. and were extremely RUDE. So my advice in this instance is to NOT invite people you don't really like. ($185.00). Marriage License ($30.00)Officiant (Free). See if you can have a friend who is willling to get ordained online to marry you. Then have that person, go down to the local clerks office, and register as a wedding officiant. www.ulc.net is where I am ordained. (free)Rings: We got his ring at wal-mart for less then $75.00. He bought my original set from a friend when he went home on leave. ($75.00)Round trip plane ticket for my mom from Arizona. ($150.00)Honeymoon: We didn't get to take a honeymoon. My best advice is to go to a local B&B or to a nice hotel for a night. But don't tell anyone. That way it can be a secret and no one can bother you. Flowers: I bought silk flowers. I made the boutineers, head piece, and my bouquet for less then $25.00. ($25.00)Venue: We were married at a local park in a gazebo for $10.00. ($10.00)Photography: Hired a local photograpy student from the JC. Paid him $50.00 for 2 hours. Which included the prints and most of our negatives. ($50.00)I think we spent a total of $685.00.. And honestly I had a very miserable day. The ceremony was ok. But for all of the crap I had to go through. We should have just gone to Vegas. Thank goodness were having a renewal of vows for our 10th wedding anniversary. Good Luck.
