| Lovely idea! Ok I'm only 15, but please listen to some of my tips!First of all, you really have a nice interest, and it could potentially be very successful. But you need to look at your product from a purely business perspective. First, examine your chocolates - how good are they really? Ask people for GENUINE advise, and really focus on your recipes. Go wild with searching for better recipes etc..., and really try to make your chocolates as good as they can be. Of course it takes time to do this - even Coca Cola is still developing its product! But really go crazy about making them perfect. Now think about how you will produce them. Where? Have you got the right tools for it? Bear in mind you'll be making them in quite large quantities, first start of examing how exactly you will make it. You need to invest a bit into this business at first. I suggest around £100 will be good enough - just get your tools etc.. to make it really easy and quick for you.But the crucial thing about a business is that it must make profit for you. Calculate exactly how much it would cost you to make your chocolates, and then how much you'd sell them for. My advise to you is keep your costs low, your chocs good, but don't price it too heavy. You're a beginner so start cheap but good. Now once you work out it costs and estimated income per order, think - is it worth it.Now think about customers. Who actually wants your chocs. There's so many bakerys out there - but do they make chocs? Do people really want chocs for their weddings, or are most people quite shy to turn to chocs, and prefer taking biscuits etc.. Whilst we talk about biscuits, really try to find good recipes for biscuits - cos I bet to you people will want chocolate biscuits, or biscuits and chocs or something. Then think about who you're going to supply to. I suggest you dust open a Yellow Pages and lookup wedding planners. Be careful you don't go very near small bakeries in your area - they're bound to steal your ideas! Find wedding planners, talk to them, and give them a free box of your finest selection. Take pics on a nice home digital camera, and give it to them, and develop a nice cheap but not too cheap price list. You may also want to try advertisign in the local newspaper - though only at Valentines, wedding season times.... . I doubt they're very effective - nobody really reads the ads. You could also dip down to your local church and ask to put a nice polite advert up.BTW: remember that chocolates are food - so you may have to check out health and safety, allergy labelling laws etc..There's so much to tell you - but I really don't recommend having tooo high hopes, cos you're just so new! Don't give up your job or anything - this could be a nice little something on the side for you, but you need to think carefully about the product and selling it as a business. Hope I haven't lectured! Good luck - nice ideas |
