| Here is an idea that is catching on recently (at least in the South). We are expecting 400+ guests, yet didn't want to pay a fortune for a giant cake. We will have a 4 layer cake that costs about $3 per slice, and then several sheet cakes (called "kitchen cakes") of exactly the same cake flavor, filling and icing details at $1.50 per slice. With the groom's cake (also using kitchen cakes) our total runs about $1200. Seems expensive, but keep in mind that is a LOT of people to serve. $3 per slice is VERY cheap for a nice cake (and it this bakery does VERY nice work). Also, you can save money and still have an elegant cake if you opt for buttercream over fondant icing (unless you have an outdoor wedding in the summer--the buttercream icing can melt). |
