What are some good ideas for a 40th anniversary party for my parents?Ruby is the color Games to playentertainmentcenterpiecesfavorsthanks a bunch, we don't have a lot of money so we would like to keep things simple. We have lots of helping hands though!how corny would a "sock hop" be with possibly an elvis impersonator? I have loads of old records we could hang on the walls and decorate to make centerpieces. would this be a bit cheesy?Any other ideas would be great! I did find out that the hool a hoop was a craze in 1958. We could have contests with them. lol We will probably have around 75 guests.any other ideas are welcome. Thinking maybe my uncle or grandpa? dress up as a priest and then have my moms sisters and stuff be dressed up as crazy bridesmaids and do like a mock wedding. what do you think of this?THANK YOU, for pointing that out! it is their 40th I just can't do simple math!

love the sock hop idea! hoola hoops could be fun. the records as decorations is wonderful! i wouldn't worry too much about games. people are there for honoring your parents, not goofy games. they will enjoy just being there and celebrating. sharing old stories, looking at old pictures, listening to great music and dancing! i wouldn't worry too much about entertainment. i'm sure they'll provide plenty.if you want to go with the wedding theme, how about actually renewing their vows?

Do you mean 50th? 1958 was 50 years ago.

What about Wine glass ID rings. You can make them before hand or at the party. If you use alphabet beads, people can have one with their own name or nickname on it. They are also very practical- No more putting down glasses and not remembering if its yours. Saves on washing up & glass hiring. Link below has examples, kits and the bits to make them

Hi. How nice of you to plan a party for your parents. I am not trying to knock any of your ideas, but I would not do any kind of entertainment (see below), or any other corny (as you said) sock hop or elvis impersonator, or "dressed up" priests, etc. The reason being. I have no idea how old your parents are....but even if they were married young (20?)...that would make them 60 years old. I am 52 myself, and I like to have fun just like the next guy, but I would want a more elegant, quieter anniversry party. Here is what I would do:~ No games~ Entertainment: How about just having some music playing from an ipod. You CAN have the music of that era (1968)....Elvis, and such....that would be nice.Other entertainment: Depending on where the party is....inside or outside? You could make up a big display of picture of your parents (try to keep it a secret). My sister's and I did this for our parents 50th and it was a big hit. Start with pictures of them dating (if you can find some)....then their marriage....then the kids....other events like vacations....family reunions/weddings....etc. Display them all on a nice board. Maybe someone can help you with this.OR.....along the same lines.....and people do this at weddings too.....get all of the above mentioned pictures and have them put on to a dvd (there are companies that do this, or if you know someone with this capability, they can do it for you)....usually there is music playing in the background.....then you can show this at the party!!Either one of the above would be nice and I KNOW would be a hit!~ Cake: Is there a way to get a picture of the cake they had at their wedding? Perhaps you can take it to a bakery and they can duplicate the cake! That is one idea.~ Centerpieces: Depending on how many tables you have, you can just do something simple like a small vase filled with a couple or roses or red tipped carnations?~ A glass bowl filled with some "ruby colored" vase gems and then some floating candles?OR....again a picture of your parents on their wedding day! Get a bunch of prints made and put them in some cheap frames that you can buy at a dollar store. That's it for my ideas! Good luck with the party!
