It's generally because the groom has his own tastes and preferences, and it allows him some say in the wedding. It's a southern tradition, and the flavor of the groom's cake is usually opposite of the wedding cake-(wedding cake may be white cake with white icing, while the groom's cake is chocolate cake with chocolate icing). You don't have to stick with that tradition though. Also, groom's cakes are often carved, or shaped like something that represents something about the groom-(a golf ball, baseball cap, a car, whatever the groom is into). Let him pick the cake, (it is the groom's cake, or at least let him have a say in it, that's what it's there for), and have fun! Congrats!

Well, the tradition was that the grooms cake would be cut up and served to unmarried women in boxes. Then they would supposedly dream of their future husband.Obviously... some people found that tradition offensive (really, singling out the single gals with the bouquet tossing and this is a little much, haha), so its gone somewhat the wayside. Its more light hearted now. Now, the grooms cake is meant to signify the grooms interests. Hobbies, sports, activities, inside jokes, etc. I have seen everything from armadillo grooms cakes to a cake in the shape of a nintendo wii! Whatever is special to your hubby. Its usually the bride's gift to the groom, and it's a surprise for him.I am having a Pittsburgh Penguins grooms cake, because he loves hockey, and thats his favorite hockey team (we live in Pittsburgh), especially since they are doing so well in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.Other ideas: my sister had a "naughty nurse" grooms cake. It wasn't necessarily a hobby of his... but it was a fantasy of his. My sister's a nurse, by the way. Very Happy A friend who married a cop had a glock grooms cake. Some other common ideas:beerpokerhuntingfishingsportscollege alma mattermoviescomic booksstar warscareersmusicmusical instrumentsa humorous version of the wedding cake (groom with a ball and chain, groom being yelled at by a bride, etc.)so many more!Basically... its meant to reflect him and his interests. Its supposed to be cheesy, kitchy, and humorous rather than "elegant and refined" like the wedding cake. So don't be afraid to be silly about it! Just make sure it reflects what he loves (besides you, of course). Haha.

I think we are going to do a grooms cake with cheesecake. We both love cheesecake but that would be way too expensive for our cake for 100 guests. So I want to surprise him with cheesecake (it's his favorite cake).Generally its just to get a mix of flavor in there, its not necessary though, I just want to surprise him with it.
