I keep hearing about people giving gifts to the bridesmaids, groommen, ring bearer, flower girl, parents of the couple etc. I have never heard of this done in my culture it seems corny because wedding couple is already doing so much and spending alot of money. The wedding party is getting a free rehearsal dinner, not to mention all the food at the reception, dancing, entertainment etc. So it seems odd to have to give them additional gifts, granted yeah I know they paid for their own tuxes and dresses but thats whst friends are for.And its not that we have money issues or anything like that, in fact we're going all out on our wedding its just something that I dont understand and it would great if someone could answer this for me. Thanks!

The last wedding I was in as a bridesmaid cost me over $2,000 for dress, shoes, hair, alterations, hotel, gifts, shower etc. A small token of appreciation is the least you can do. It doesn't have to be anything big.

It is a way to thank them for all of their time, efforts and money they put into your wedding, but most importantly thanking them for supporting you on your relationship and commitment to one another.Frankly your attitude seems rather self serving.

I think you basically summed it up in your details. Its just a gift showing appreciation for what they have done to be part of your day. If you dont feel it is understood in your circle of friends/family, by all means do not do it. I agree - true friends do not need a gift to prove it.

My best friend just got married at the beginning of this month and I was her maid of honor and yes they did give gifts but only to the bridesmaids and groomsmen, the maid of honor and best man. They give gifts because of all the stuff they do to help with the wedding. I had to pay for my own dress, and had many many tasks I was responsible for. You dont have to get something real expensive just something to show your appreciation, they got everyone lvery nice key chains. If you are doing everything yourself then you probably don't have to get them anything. In her wedding the flower girl and ring bearer were her own kids so that may be why they didn't recieve a gift. But when I was younger I was a flower girl and I didn't recieve a gift so I think it is just for the main wedding party.

the gifts mean they really appreciate you being in their wedding and sharing their special day, I know I bought all of my girls jewerly, and their hair done, and I bought each one of them something that I thought would mean something to them like one of my friends I bought her a gift certificate to her favorate place to get her nails done just little things like that mean a lot and something that they will remember,

yeah, they are getting a free dinner and such, but they are also giving you a gift on top of paying for their own dresses and tuxes and whatever else they have to pay for (accomodations, hair and makeup...) and if thats what friends are for then a friend should be wanting to give a thank you gift to the people in their wedding. I paid for my MOH's dress and still gave her a thank you gift becuase I wanted her to know how much I appreciated her taking the time to be part of my special day. its called being polite.

A lot of brides give jewerly to their bridesmaids. My sister in law gave us earrings that we wore at the wedding. They are buying a dress, shoes, hats, travel, gifts to your bridal shower and wedding gift. Maybe taking off work. So you give them two dinners???? They are giving you a lot of their time and effort for your wedding.

It's just a nice thing to do to appreciate the people who are helping you put this thing together. If you are not really rellying on them to help out with anything else, just look pretty on your day, then don't give them anything.

yeah, the night before the wedding the bride and groom are supposed to give gifts to their bridesmaids and groomsmen to say thank you for being in their wedding. it is NOT odd at all!!! it's the least the bride and groom could do for their wedding party!!
