I am currently a programmer, I have a BSCS from Drexel, and 4 years experience programming. I have experience with agile methodologies, and a lot of java experience, among other things. I have the hobby of photography, and am constantly learning more about it, and improving my skills in both my work and my hobbies. I've heard that consulting is a good way to earn money, but am unsure where to get started. I have taken pictures for 4 weddings, and was comfortable with it, but the wedding photography thing is feast and famine. I would like to find a situation where I can program in the evening and my spare time when I'm not at my day job, instead of sitting around watching tv, or wasting time, I'd rather be able to do work and earn money with my skills. I've considered taking a part-time job at a local major retailer, but I feel that my time is worth more than I'd be paid there. I would appreciate any suggestions to get me started or help me find interested clients. Thanks!

O.K., I don't have any ideas for using your skills, but you use those all day! Instead of getting a job at a retailers (yuck!), start your own office cleaning business! It's a low-cost start-up, you can pick how much you want to work, pretty no brainer, and it brings in a steady income. Check out my lens and it will tell you more!

My Friend your time is worth what anyone Else's time is worth. Your skills and ambitions along with your work ethic is worth a fortune if you continue with the attitude you seem to have. My advice would be for you to take care of yourself with an income source that pays your bills. Live simply and look to connect with a person or group of people who have an idea that needs to be combined with your skills. Writers write. Fish Swim. Programmers program. Photographers photograph. If you program in the evening instead of watching the tube you will be rewarded. Opportunities will present themselves. What about a program that converts a picture or slide show of pictures into a custom header for a website? Whatever. You have ideas. Its easier to sell ideas that have action applied to them.. I may be interested ....

You seem to have great computer skills. How about building websites for extra income in your spare time. You can even build one around your interests in photography. BEST WISHES!

There are so many things I could do with your experience I wish, i wish, but here is the thing. To build a website for someone you can charge anywhere from 100-250 dollars. You can also get into affiliate marketing and learn how to promote those sites and make per each of those sites around 1000 bucks. You can get a build a niche store software which is part of affiliate marketing and build sites for yourself and promote them and earn part of eBay profit... If you have around 20 hours a week to spend on this it is a great industry to get into. |

Where and How to Start?
There’s so much to do, it can be mind-numbing. Don’t worry. I planned and held my first wedding in two months and my second wedding in three months. If you have the luxury of a year or more, feel lucky!
Wedding Invitation
Ideally, invitations should be mailed out 6-8 weeks before the big day to give guests time to make arrangements to attend and RSVP back to you.
Wedding Attire
Where I come from, buying a tuxedo is virtually unheard of. Renting is probably the way to go to realize the ultimate savings on the groom’s attire.
Wedding Flowers
Cheap doesn't mean that your wedding flowers can't be beautiful. All flowers are lovely no matter what they cost.
Wedding Ceremony Decoration
Most wedding ceremonies are short and sweet, so why spend a majority...
Wedding Music
Music for your wedding ceremony could consist of live or recorded performances.
Wedding Photography
Pictures are priceless, and you want to be sure you have plenty of good pictures of your special day.
Wedding Favors
Some brides don’t like the idea of giving gifts to her guests, but we think it’s a nice gesture as a thank you...
Wedding Food
Wedding food can take a huge chunk out of your wedding budget.
Wedding Cake
Your wedding cake is the centerpiece of the reception. It is a scrumptious dessert as well as part of a tradition
Wedding Party
The question of whether or not to serve alcohol at your wedding is one that can cause dissension in the ranks of family.
