| I don't know whether it's a cultural thing or not, but I do know that I have seen it at almost every wedding I have been to (mostly in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Missouri). I don't have a problem with it- sometimes the money is earmarked for the honeymoon.Also, at my brother's wedding, as the best man I was required to collect the money that people paid to dance with the bride. Some people paid just a dollar, but most paid $5-10 or even $20. Basically, it's just something fun. I guess I can understand your point, but your feeling is the precise reason that it is OPTIONAL. |

| It's common in Polish/German weddings. It was explained to me this way. The dollar is given to the bride along with good wishes for a long and happy life, to tell her how beautiful she looks, etc. It's a way to have short one on one time with the bride.I didn't have a money dance, but I didn't get to spend time with many guests and would have liked to. |
