I've been at my job for almost 5 months and someone is collecting for a wedding gift for a coworker. I never know how much to contribute in this situation. We don't work on the same "team" but we do chat anytime we see each other. Thanks!

I would say definitely more than $20. But no more than $50, especially since you aren't really friends, and do not hang out -outside of work.

about ten bucks should be more than sufficient, since it's a collective thing. Or else, as around what's to be bought, it'll be easier to set the budget (say like $5 per person), then go get the gift. Easier that way, if not, how would you know if they pocketed the money? Is someone making a list of total collected amount?

i wouldn't put in much $5-$20... find out what others are doing and base it on that... you don't really have to give any but if you don't want your new co-workers thinking you're not going to be a part of things you should especially if you like her

I don't think it would be inappropriate to ask someone else contributing.

I have a $10 limit on gifts for co-workers. It works for me, I would suggest finding an ammount that works for you and stick to it. If you always give the same ammount then you always feel that you are being fair.

At least $5... $10 would be nice... $20 would be super nice.If you're not sure, and you have a trusted co-worker who is sort of friendly with you, ask them what people in the office usually give. I work in the Federal Government, and they have rules on how much you can give any person for a gift... with the exceptions of birth, death, and weddings. So give what you like, but know that word does usually get around. Ask, ask, ask, and you'll be happy you did.Good Luck!

Well the people who are contributing should figure out what they are going to get the couple, figure out the price, then how many people will contribute, then put in your share

I would say $5-10 is appropriate. You haven't been there a long time and it doesn't sound like you are super close to her. Depending on how many employees there are (my office has 100+), if everyone just gave $5, she could received a couple hundred dollars. That's a nice wedding gift.

Since it is for a joint gift, $10 to $20 is sufficient.
