I want a small pocket camera with a biggish zoom. I'm thinking of a Canon Exilim V8 or a Samsung S850. They're $200 and $150. The canon has a bigger optical zoom and a non-expanding lens. But the samsung is cheaper and seems to be getting better reviews from people. And I'm not sure if Samsung is really a good brand or not....http://reviews.cnet.com/4504-4_7-0.html?id=32732809&id=32306190&tag=boxcocoOh wait, it's a Casio Exilim V8, not Canon.

You are correct. The Samsung is a CHEAPER camera and it will get good reviews from people who want a lot of CHEAP features. Photographers who appreciate high quality images taken with properly handled high quality equipment will pick the Canon 100% each and every time.

Can't beat Canon quality. The 1000 Elph is going for ~$179 retail now. Nice size, good pics. Zooms cause shakey pictures which IS can help.

Well, I'm throwing my hat into the "me too" ring.I love the Canon brand because not only do they have superior image quality, but they are also well built and their service is second to none.Samsung makes good stuff -- I just wouldn't rate it as a top tier brand like the Canon.
