| Come on. Mexicans make up 8.7 percent of the U.S. military, and you are trying to argue that it "damages morale and undermines the military" not to have English as the official language? Get real. Spanish speaking people (along with other immigrant groups) have given a great deal to this country, and making English the official language would make it ILLEGAL to provide service to them in their own language. I have no problem with English being the official language of the USA. I do, however have a problem with legislation that is ignorant and backward and doesn't take the reality of the heterogeneity of the US population into account. It's as ridiculous as your question. |

| Agree 100% Everytime I see a sign written in Spanish or Arabic, I want to go find an illegal and toss them into the ocean. Go back to your country if you want to speak your native tounge. You want to live here, learn to speak and read English. |

| Oh, for crying out loud!You cannot make English the "official" language in our country. Our population is too diverse. We are a nation of immigrants - everyone either came from somewhere else or are descended from ancestors who did.English is already declared the "National Language"...that's enough. Do you have any idea of the consequences of having an "official" language? I think not.First generation immigrants usually learn enough English to get by. Their children, the second generation, become fluent in the language. It is impossible to function in our society without at least a rudimentary grasp of the English language. That's enough.This is not some elitist nation or some rigidly controlled dictatorship...this is America. Our motto is "E Pluribus Unum". I suggest you find out what that means......Now, leave our new immigrants alone. |

| Because Mexicans speak Spanish and are forecast to be the majority ethnic/racial group in the US by mid-century. They may even vote to secede various territories from the US as they grow in number.Apparently, national boundaries don't mean much to the U.S. government any more, i.e. NAFTA, open borders, etc. Take Kosovo, for example. The US approved the creation of a new country (irredentism by Albanians) while disregarding international law, including various UN resolutions and procedures. Go figure. It may happen in the US soon. Time will tell. |
