I was real sick w/a virus, emailed in sick last wed. morning from a bad virus. [never had I missed a day due to being sick this past yr.]she got mad, leaving a nasty "toned" message to call her.when I woke up from being ill called her. all she asked is if I'd be in tomorrow. I said most likely yes.So I was.next wed. the SAME thing. same virus/relapse, felt even WORSE. So truthfully, honestly went to the ER.Left her an email at 5am saying I'd be at the hospital was really ill.She really actually didn't care.she was just mad, took me OFF the schedule, didn't call or email me it turned out later. So Later that day called her.she wouldn't answer whether or not I could work or not the following week, just saying to me "Monday, we have something very important to talk about". and said goodbye, hung up.WELL, This is a sales rep/merchandising position. She emails everybody mornings when she gets up. and checks her emails at like at 6-7am.she never said, "You have to call"I told her I have a hospital formshe seemed rather disinterested in thatLOOOOOL, LOLI GOT ANOTHER JOB TODAY MAKING MORE $$$$ ANYWAY< AHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHahahhaHAH heeee heeeheeHOOOOOOOUUUUu heehehehuhuHUUUUUUHEjjeeeejaaadahhhadahhHAHAHAH GEEE!!!GeeeWEEEEEEEEeeeee!!! { :--D

Go to your doctor, the one who treated you in the ER, and get a written excuse. You can present that to her when you talk with her on Monday.

Totally inappropriate to email in "sick". You must call on the telephone, this is standard office procedure. She probably thinks youre faking illness.

I'm not sure, but I believe she can get into some trouble firing you if you called off the right way and if you provided dr.s excuses both days you were sick. Cover all your bases and when you go in for your meeting, ask her for Human Resources number and don't sign anything!!

Not sure how old you are...but even in this technology driven era, the telephone is absolutely the way to go with this type of situation. An email looks and sounds cavalier, you still have to use the phone for certain situations and calling in sick is one of them. It presents itself as if you are so disinclined to even make a phone call and all your boss' time is worth is an email..you can't even be bothered to pick up the phone.Apologize on Monday, repent and ask her how she wants you to handle the situation in the future and what the policy is for calling in sick.

All co. are suffering $$$ problems. I sell produce. A call direct to the boss helpsease the pressure that we go through each day. Missing work strains our nerves really our blood pressure e /mails make it seem like your hiding.Maybe a call to there home or better yet a visit might solve this issue. One door closes one door opens! Might just be a positive reason whyall this happened. Hold ur head UP

This is your fault, a simple phone call would have been much more suitable for this kind of situation. I mean..its not that hard, in fact its much easier than typing an email!

I managed for over 20 years. I would NOT accept an email in this situation. What if your supervisor (I hate the term "boss") didn't read her email that day? Technology is awesome, but it doesn't replace respect or responsibility. If I were too ill to call, I would find someone to make the call for me before I'd ever do that in email. In the future, call unless the company protocol accepts emailed absence notification.

if she wants to fire you for being ill then you can most certainly sue her and the company for prejudice and unlawful dismissal.iv never heard of anyone emailing into work sick, you have to call in. a phone call means an immediate communication between you and the boss. an email means they will only receive the 'sick note' any time during the day, rather than when you expect them to during that 6-7am slot. you said you have receieved a new job, well, try not to make the same mistake, phone them when you are ill.and because of this im sure she saw you as being disrespectful by doing this and taking the Pi*s as you have called in sick on two consecutive Wednesdays

You are supposed to talk to someone in person when you identify as being too sick to work. E-mail and even voicemail is less reliable because you have no way to assure they will get the message. Most companies do have a strict procedure to follow including sometimes multiple contacts. they cant fire you for being sick, its illegal. you can sue for that. . the most they can do is say you dont qualify for paid sick leave, They can take it into consideration when it comes time to renew contracts or lay off staff. in that case your attendance overall can be considered as well as your tendency to observe call in procedures (or not as the case may be)

She sounds like she's got perennial PMS. That's petty and ridiculous, who cares if you email or call, either way you've conveyed to your employer that you are sick, it shouldn't matter which method you use. Jill - you won't accept an email from a sick employee?? Unbelievable. If you get a doctor's note from a legal standpoint she doesn't have a leg to stand on, so you should be okay. Oh and congratulations on your new job!!

Company policy, in my case, states that you CALL your immediate supervisor to report any absences by 9AM at the latest. This means use the phone, not the computer or blackberry.A doctors note is required after three consecutive days out.Had you done that, I don't think you would have had a problem, you bought this all on yourself.

because email is not calling in. It may have been way past time for you to be there before they saw the email. The idea is to talk to someone and tell them you are sick before the beginning of your shift. (If the hand book says call, which it probably does, she can fire you.)

You should have called in sick. Emailing her was not the appropriate thing to do. For all she knows you could have been living it up somewhere. You didn't have the guts to call her on the phone and tell her that you were sick which is rude and makes her even more suspiscious that you were lying. Next time call her on her phone that's why she gave you her number in the first place.
