My hubby & I have been married for over 3 years, and are thinking of renewing vows at 5, we have our own reasons for wanting this, but also we want a "real" wedding. 3 yrs. ago, I had a dress & he had a tux, we had cake, and my M.O.H, and his B.M. including bride, groom, M.O.H. and B.M. we had a total of 9 people in attendance! It was a beautiful wedding, but we both feel the need to renew our lives together, plus want a "real" wedding so to speak. I know of ppl doing this at like 25 yrs. and was wondering, do you think 5yrs. is too early, or that this is more a personal decision, and screw everyone else???I forgot to mention..A. my husband left for Iraq shortly after we were married, and B I would put on the invitations NOT to send or bring gifts, obviously we have been married for a little while, and still have two friggin toasters, so it's not greed!oh, and we didn't "have" to get married, there's nothing wrong with that, but I had my first and only child in Oct. of '07 and married in '04

Not too early at all, my cousin got wed quickly because she was pregnant and wanted to be married before the baby came along, so she did it quietly like you did with just a few close friends at the local town hall, 5 years later she had a church blessing/reading of the vows with the full white dress, marquee in the grounds of a stately home and best of all the little girl she had been pregnant with at the first wedding was able to be flower girl for them. It meant that all those people that were unable to attend the first wedding got the chance to see them get "married" and it was really beautiful! Go for it!

Do what makes you happy. If you want the opportunity to have a bigger affair, then go for it. I doubt anyone will frown upon a couple wanting to express their love for one another.

Wait at least seven years until the "itch" is over, or till you have both finished the honey. If you are still together, then renew your wows.I think 3 years is too early - the old chemistry is still there. Renew when you can find a new pot of honey. Why renew if you no longer have the chemistry ?

IMO, that's on a level with me (a retired lady) giving myself a sweet sixteen party because I didn't get a "real" one way back in the 1900s. I would not only make myself look foolish, but many guests would assume that greed for gifts was part of my motivation. It would be a much better idea to simply give myself a quite grand sweet sixty-six party to make up for the party I missed out on 50 years ago. I suggest you plan an absolutely splendid 5th Anniversary party with fabulous food and entertainment and a dream dress for yourself, but skip the wedding gown, bridesmaids, and other "wedding ceremony" stuff. Just have a simple vowal renewal between your cocktail hour and sitting down to dinner. With a few exceptions, like 'quickie' weddings due to military assignment to combat, having a wedding when no one is actually getting married is kind of like having a wake when no one has died.

Do it as often as you would like as you can afford. I know of people that have renewed every 5yrs b/c they dated 5yrs before they married (it is their thing and we all know it)Some ppl do it after going through trouble/problems/stress/health problems/etc.. It doesn't matter. It is your choice and your anniversary/renewal

I say that it is up to you and your husband. If he agrees with you that a "real" wedding is needed, then go for it. My husband and I are going to renew our vows at 5 years as well, because his parents weren't able to make it to our wedding. So yea, go ahead and do what you want. I hope all turns out beautifully when it comes down to it. |
